Ryron Gracie and Andre Galvao’s match ended in a draw yesterday with no fighter getting the submission. It was clear from the start that Ryron was just fighting to defend and survive, and Andre fighting to submit. Andre frustrated at this, called him out on it at the post fight interview. Ryron was extremely active during the last 5 minutes after stifling Andre for 15 minutes and letting him wear himself out. Ryron swept Andre and even went for a couple of submissions himself. He had a better game plan and excellent Jiu Jitsu.
Ryron made sport jiu jitsu look bad. If a guy who hasn’t competed in 8 years can not only survive, but attack a WORLD champion like that, we need to reevaluate the criteria in which we decide who the world champion is. Ryron kept it playful and did what he said he would.
